16 Sinners was the first recorded track to ever be 'finished'. Recorded in late 2005 in a basement in Ravenscourt Park, as were a lot of The Mandrakes tunes, a very large Victorian building on the corner of King Street & Weltje Road.

The riff of the track and the lyrics were Richard's. The original rotation of the song was even shorter than it is now, with the chorus being half the length. The band quickly kicked the song into shape and gave it the altered arrangement you hear here.

Christy recorded the keyboards and b.vox at home and brought them to Colin's gaff in Colindale, where he also added his guitar parts, having missed the recording of the main bed of the track due to being busy throwing up.

The version here is one of two 'final' mixes. This mix, which the whole band oversaw, was marked 'sensible', the other was the 'Dicky Starr' mix, which has more compressor, so more guitars and more reverb, but lacks a bit of the clarity of this mix, that's if this mix has clarity!

The other mix may appear here before too long...

p.s. there is a Mandrakes video for 16 Sinners on Youtube, go check it out.

about

The Mandrakes London, UK

Who, what and where were The Mandrakes? I don't know to be honest. Friends jamming, getting loaded, very loaded at times, playing, 'let's get some tracks together, enough to do a show', that was about what we did, enough songs for a show.
